Load-bearing walls

A load-bearing wall is a structural wall that carries the weight of the roof and upper floors down to the foundations. Concrete is an ideal material to use to support these loads because it is good at resisting compression forces. There are different ways to construct the concrete walls and some typical methods are crosswall, insulating concrete formwork (ICF), thin joint blockwork, tilt-up construction, twinwall, tunnel form and traditional masonry.
