Your vision statement sets the pace of tone for your small business' mission and goals. Write a vision statement according to your idea of where you want to take your company and how you want to get where you are going. Devote significant time to business issues, including but not limited to staff, growth and community impact. Once you have a vision statement locked in, use it to guide strategy decisions. A vision statement precedes a mission statement.
.Think big and think win-win. Commit to low overhead as well as quality excellence.
.Describe what you want your small business to achieve in the next three to five years. Include expansion goals, such as opening branch offices or dominating the market in your region.
.Meet with key staff members for brainstorming sessions. Use the visions of your sales staff and your bookkeeping office, for example.
.Identify your company's focal idea. Describe how your product or service is better than the competition.
.Describe how you will measure success -- how you will know your company is succeeding. Include elements, such as sales goals and annual operating capital. Keep the list of measurable factors short.
.Describe your organization's values. List what factors, like honesty and community involvement, will help you achieve your goals.
