AFSADAPTIVE FRONT-LIGHTING SYSTEM

One of the most important factors in mitigating driver fatigue and increasing safety during night driving is providing a well-illuminated field of view. The Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) optimizes distribution of light from the headlights according to driving circumstances. Depending on vehicle speed and steering input, the system points the low-beams headlights in the direction the driver intends to travel.

In combination with discharge headlights, the system illuminates a greater distance and more brightly compared to halogen headlights, improving the driver's field of vision and visibility around curves and at intersections during night driving. Mated with the auto-leveling function, the system offers a stable distribution of light unaffected by the vehicle's position. Maintaining the illumination axis, the system helps to prevent drivers of oncoming vehicles from getting blinded when many people or a lot of luggage weighs down the back of the car, or when the vehicle position changes going over a bump or driving up a slope.

How AFS works

* AFS is designed to reduce the risk of accidents by providing a well-illuminated field of view. However the system has its limitations, and no safety system or combination of such systems can prevent all accidents. These systems are not a replacement for safe and attentive driving. Please drive carefully at all times and do not rely on technology to prevent an accident. HBCHIGH-BEAM CONTROL

High Beam Control (HBC) detects oncoming and preceding vehicles and automatically switches between high and low beams during night driving, making it easier for the driver to recognize hazards.

Equipped vehicles usually drive with the headlights on high-beam at night; the system switches from high beam to low beam only when it detects the taillights of a car in front or the headlights of an oncoming cars. However the system also switches the headlights to low beam when the vehicle is driving in brightly lit urban areas or at speeds slower than 30km/h when high beams are not required.

Combined with the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), HBC provides a wider field of vision, enabling the driver to see further into the distance and recognize hazards earlier. The system helps the driver drive with peace of mind at night.

 * HBC may not perform as expected due to factors such as light sources nearby (street lights, traffic signal, etc.), bad weather (rain, snow, fog, etc.) and road conditions (multiple curves, undulations, etc.).
