Types of Boiler Chemicals

What are the types of Boiler Chemicals are there?
There are two main groups of Chemicals for Boilers to choose from. One chemical group for boilers is for steam boilers and the second is for hot water boilers.

Steam Boiler Chemicals - These include Oxygen Scavengers, Amines, Phosphates, Polymers, and Alkalinity Builders.

  • Oxygen Scavengers - Most common type is 38%, pH < 4. Other solutions come blended with a cobalt catalyst and alkalinity contributors. These blends are usually 50% dilutions and come in 7 and 10 pH. Using these blends eliminates using an alkalinity source (i.e. eliminates using a separate alkalinity drum).
  • Boiler Alkalinity Builders - Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide are the most common boiler alkaline products.. Mostly sold in 25% and 50% in solutions.
  • Amines - Neutralizing amines are considered neturalizing chemicals. Cyclohexylamine, Morpholine, and Diethylaminoethanol. These chemicals can be purchased as a single component or in a multi-blend in many dilution ratios.
  • Scale Prevention - Blend of Phosphates and Polymers.

Hot Water Boilers - The most economical chemical to use is a blend of Sodium Nitrite.
