Water Technology
Description
n the field of water treatment technology, breakthrough technological developments are required. Not only to enable the export ambitions of the water sector but also to solve global threats and challenges in society. A combined technological approach, based on the state-of-the-art in science and technology, may offer a solution to several developments, within business and society, with a worldwide impact on the demand for and use of water
The world requires solutions to new and growing existing problems in the availability and quality of water for personal, agricultural, industrial use and nature. At the same time, the focus must be on sustainable solutions for these problems requiring less energy, reuse of valuable minerals and metals and low or no production of greenhouse gases.
The Netherlands has out of necessity gained considerable knowledge and experience in the field of water purification technologies. Water technology has become a "key area" in which the Netherlands excels and has achieved a competitive position internationally. Research efforts from the past years have resulted in worldwide applications in wastewater treatment, industrial and drinking water supply and for monitoring quality.
The master programme Water Technology is mainly based on combined knowledge from the underlying engineering programmes in Biotechnology and in Chemical Engineering. Interaction between separation technologies, living organism and chemical phenomena are a significant part and basis of the programme.
Students learn to approach problems in a multidisciplinary way and they learn to transfer knowledge into applications because the development of new sustainable technological concepts is the main focus within the field of water technology.
