Behringer Reveals VCS3 Analog Synthesizer Prototype

Behringer's quest to bring the most popular, iconic synthesizers from yesteryear into the modern age at budget prices and with affordable prices for everyone continues in a big way with the VCS 3.

The original EMS VCS 3, fully analog semi-modular, "portable" synthesizer was first released in 1969. Behringer have replicated it with their own VCS 3 and are adding more new features too. We're waiting to hear on price and availability. But we're in an early stage still... so a little more patience is advised to accompany the obvious excitment many in the synth community are feeling right now!

Behringer have confirmed that "the circuitry is all analog and based on the original". Even more interesting is that they've "added many more functions in cooperation with an expert VCS modder from the UK." Additionally, the internal design of the VCS 3 has been "completely reengineered to adapt to modern manufacturing processes".

If you're wondering if the Behringer VCS 3 will have a mechanical spring reverb and also real wood like the original, Behringer says, "the answer is a clear "yes"."

What's next for this synthesizer? The Behringer engineers need "to "trouble shoot' the unit in conjunction with [their] expert partner and additional beta testers, who are lucky enough to own an original unit."

While they feel it will take a while longer to complete the VCS 3 unit ready for manufacturing and sale, Behringer feels confident that they will ship the VCS3 in 2021.
